Environment Information System
(ENVIS), Himachal Pradesh, is a programme of the
Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of
India on "SOE & RELATED ISSUES". Envis is a decentralized system
using the distributed network of databases to ensure integration of national
efforts in Environment Informational Compilation, Storage, Retrieval and
dissemination to all concerned including policy planners, decision makers,
research workers and the public.

Realising the importance of
Environmental Information, the Government of India, in December, 1982,
established an Environment Information System
(ENVIS) as
a plan programme. The focus of ENVIS since inception has been on providing
environmental information to decision makers, policy planners, scientists and
engineers, research workers, etc. all over the country.
